We found a great camp spot in at the Elsey National Park (Jalmurark camp ground). You could have a fire with your own wood, there were flushing toilets, hot showers and a place to swim and each camp had plenty of space. Before heading into Kakadu we took the kids to the Thermal hot springs on the way into Mataranka. They were excited to be able to have a swim even if it was only short.
